David Bowie’s concerts were always the ideal setting to enjoy his multidisciplinary talent. The combination of visual, music and theatre elements in his shows was the expression of his creative universe, and the evidence of his condition as a unique artist.
However, even though his songs were heard around the world, just a privileged selection of Anglo-Saxon, Asian and North-European countries were able to enjoy Bowie’s concerts life for some years. The risk for such an artist to trust a foreigner promoter to organize a tour in an unknown market was an obstacle not always easy to overcome.
Even so, Bowie landed in the South of Europe in 1987 with The Glass Spider Tour and in Latin America in 1990 with the Sound + Vision Tour. In Argentina, he landed along with Daniel Grinbank, concert promoter for artists such as Prince, U2 and The Rolling Stones, among others. Grinbank was an entrepreneur that placed his country in the map of international tours in a time in which the access to information was limited, and the uncertainty of the agreements outcome was greater than it is in the present times.
In this talk among Daniel Grinbank and David Loscos, Director of the Postgraduate Course in Global Music Business Management, they will analyze the history of the first appearance of Bowie in Argentina, and the details of a relationship that concludes with the arrival in Barcelona of the exhibition ‘David Bowie is.’
